The Issue

Young African-American males all over the country who live in the inner cities fit within the demographics of a group who are most likely to be caught up in shootings that result in death. This fact has been demonstrated all over the United States from New York, Atlanta, Chicago, St. Louis, New Orleans, Los Angeles and right here in the Bay Area. The end result of this unfortunate fact is that there is an influx of pain and suffering in the Black community and a reduction of Black males who could grow up to be productive members of society. Certain identified cities within the Bay Area suffer more homicides due to the gun violence, then others. Richmond, Oakland, Vallejo, East Palo Alto and San Francisco stand out as cities where loss of life is a common occurrence and frequently, on a weekly basis. The Black family, and more specifically the Black female have a higher incidence of attending funerals of love ones who are males due to violent crime then most other groups. Females need their male counter parts and visa versa! The obvious problem of young Black men dying at disproportionate rates is that there will be a continued decrease in these citizens thriving within the customary family unit, thus causing institutionalized problems that will continue to permeate the Black community. This film will provide moving images and articulated examples of the problem coupled with varied solutions that will be viewed by the targeted public. This film will help spark interests and actions that put us on the road for real change. |
